WordPress SEO optimization: do you want to optimize your site so it lands on the first page? Whether it’s a business website or an online store, we can help. We’ve gathered all the information you need to optimize your site correctly. SEO is the acronym for Search Engine Optimization, meaning optimization for search engines. In other words, SEO is the process that moves your site up in Bing, Google, Yahoo and so on. SEO matters because billions of searches happen on Google every day, which means a lot of people are looking for businesses like yours. So why not be among the first? Especially since most users click on organic results, often ignoring the paid ones.

On top of that, with SEO you don’t pay for clicks. Unlike PPC, where you pay for every click on your site, with SEO you don’t pay Google when you appear in results and users visit your site. SEO has countless benefits, so why not take advantage of them? To make sure your site is crawled by Google’s bots, it needs to be indexed. There are also several plugins in use, including Yoast SEO, Rank Math and others. In this guide, we’ll use Yoast.

  • Sitemap

Search engines crawl the sitemap to see and access your pages. How do you create a sitemap? Nothing could be simpler! With Yoast, go to General -> Features and set Sitemap to On, as shown in the image:

If you want to see your site’s sitemap, click the question mark and you’ll find a link to the sitemap there.

  • Redirects

This option, available only in the plugin’s premium version, is very useful. If we’ve deleted a page, it’s essential to create a redirect to another page to avoid 404 errors.

  • Robots.txt

The robots.txt file is essential for SEO, so it needs to be created. To do this, go to Tools -> File Editor and click Create robots.txt file.  To optimize the site as well as possible, we also need to optimize it as well as possible on-page. That’s why meta titles and descriptions are important in this process.

Meta titles should be 30-60 characters long, while meta descriptions should be 120-160 characters long. To make sure of this, we can always check in Yoast, right from the page we want to publish.

If the green line appears, it means they’re good.
