Actually, you’re not doing SEO!

It has been a good few years now since the Romanian market first heard of SEO.

In fact, the acronym appeared when Google became more and more visible and active in our lives. People started searching for the products and services they need directly on Google more and more often, which meant (and still means) a huge opportunity for businesses to reach customers through a screen.

With all this “development” came a great deal of information, and business owners became increasingly confused about which online marketing strategies they should use. Especially when it comes to this particular marketing strategy, SEO, which was and still is “hard to monitor and quantify”. In short: how much money does it bring me? If I put in 1,000 euros a month, will it bring me 5,000?

I will not get into that discussion about the profitability of this marketing strategy, but after 6 years and a few hundred SEO campaigns monitored and managed, I can say that right now, online, everything starts with a well-thought-out SEO strategy.

And because the most important thing for an entrepreneur is to be informed, I have tried to answer 2 questions that come up often when it comes to SEO.

1. How many “keywords” are you optimizing in Google?

If you answered with an exact number, you are probably one of the lucky owners of a gold, silver, platinum, expert, basic or full “package” that brings you the following “benefits”:

  • Low-quality content
    • In other words, articles that have little to do with your business or with how you want to position yourself in the market.
  • Links of even lower quality than the content
    • In other words, the sources where the articles (low-quality, as we have already established) are posted are ghost sites that no users visit and that are just “link farms” used to manipulate the search engine
  • No explanations whatsoever about how your business is growing online.
  • No activity reports or reports tracking the results.

PS: I know you will not believe me, but in an SEO campaign you do not optimize “keywords”; you optimize the pages of the site, which reach top positions in Google for certain keywords.

So if you now feel like you are living a dream, that is a good sign: you still have time to get informed and do what is right for your business.

2. Did the company building your website include “SEO optimization” in its super–package? How can you tell whether what you are promised is what you get?

If, while the site was being built, you never discussed:

  • the size of the market you want to reach
  • the reasons why the site needs a certain structure
  • the actual structure of the site (categories, subcategories, filters, etc.)
  • who your competitors are and what they are doing in terms of SEO
  • optimizing certain texts on the site

…you are probably one of the people who won the “well-optimized website lottery” and no longer need to pay hundreds or thousands of euros for optimization, because you get it free in the package.

Or

…your provider has not kept you informed, which means you are about to build a site that will not perform in Google. Of course, this message is not for those whose philosophy of life is “believe and do not question”. I am sure God will help them climb in Google.

It is never too late to look at things from a different perspective, because it can save your business.
